By the way, I was the princess of Bulgaria in the NATO's Azalea festival 2007, held in Norfolk, Virginia. It was a wonderful experience and I wouldn't mind at all doing it next year again.

There was some boring stuff as well - like waiting most of the time, but who cares, I was a princess :) I enjoyed meeting the 25 other princesses and staring at the queen, who was not so easy to approach, because she was a queen, after all.

The queen this year was from England and she is granddaughter of Winston Chirchil, impressive!

On the very day of the festival we used two other Bulgarians (besides me) to beautify my platform. We dressed them in Bulgarian traditional outfits, prepared by my mom. It was all self-made and as you can see from the pictures, the realization was pretty good.

All the princesses had escorts - 13 American and 13 British cadets. The British ones were cuter and with lovely diction, but unfortunately I had a much younger than me American, so we couldn't find a lot mutual interests.
The festival was followed by a ball in the night. It was awesome (I wouldn't use this cliche usually but it fits perfectly for the really fantastic ball). The theme was "Casino Royal 007" and the set was made as if we were really in a casino. We took pictures in front of the car used in the last James Bond movie.
Well, thank God I'm in America to participate in a real festival, because in Bulgaria parades are kind of unloved for the past 18 years, after the fall of the socialist regime.
The beautiful Norfolk...
The festival is named after the flower Azalea, which bushes blossom at the same week when the parade is being held.

And I was so proud with my girl ;o)))
Iva is my princess everyday, but on that particular day she was a festival princess… too bad I was not there to see all the glamour of the Azalea Festival, the parade, the people… hopefully next year.
