The financial crisis visualized

It cannot be described in more clear way than this http://crisisofcredit.com/. 10 minutes later (after the video), ask yourself : “Who is responsible for the situation we have? Global Financial crisis?
- May be the home owner?
- No, no, no! May be defaulting mortgage owners?
- No, no, no! May be Government?
- Hmmmm, how about the risk management of corporations, being greedy for bigger market share and higher profits.
- Take 5 and think about it!

There is a nice saying in Bulgarian, which I will try to translate in English:
"Не вината на този, който яде хляба, а на този, който му го дава!"
"We should not blame the one who eats the bread, but the one who is giving it to him"

12 Real Exuces of People Who Were Late

Here are 12 of the most outrageous excuses employees have said for being late to work:

1. My heat was shut off so I had to stay home to keep my snake warm.
2. My husband thinks it's funny to hide my car keys before he goes to work.
3. I walked into a spider web on the way out the door and couldn't find the spider, so I had to go inside and shower again.
4. I got locked in my trunk by my son.
5. My left turn signal was out so I had to make all right turns to get to work.
6. A gurney fell out of an ambulance and delayed traffic.
7. I was attacked by a raccoon and had to stop by the hospital to make sure it wasn't rabid.
8. I feel like I'm in everyone's way if I show up on time.
9. My father didn't wake me up.
10. A groundhog bit my bike tire and made it flat.
11. My driveway washed away in the rain last night.
12. I had to go to bingo.

Round table “Financial PR during crisis”

On April 8th I was at the round table “Financial PR during crisis”. The event was hosted by the Bulgarian PR Society and supported by one of the local banks – Postbank. I was not surprised to see nearly 100 people attending this event – mainly PR and Communication head, but also reps of the PR agencies and media in the sector. I liked the presentation, particularly the one of Iliana Zaharieva, but I was disappointed by the discussions. Most of the attendees were shy and not willing to share. Most of the time we were sharing information that we already have and pretended that is all fine. The only bomb was thrown by Vassil Atanasov – Managing Editor “Business” with Economedia, who said that with a risk to destroy the idealistic spirit at the round table, the PR is actually not helping the media to do its job. This was not enough for the PR experts to finally get the mic and speak freely. Almost immediately the host announced a break, which ended the discussion.

After the break it was close to a disaster: most of attendees left, Rumiana Markova Chief PR Expert at the Fund for deposits presented a leaflet, which to my understanding she sees as the peak of her achievements, Diana Dimcheva with Synergon Holding decided to make a full report of her activities in house, which was supposed to be sharing of experience but to me was more like a reporting to her CEO. At least after the break we missed the prompting advices of the auditorium.

Still, end of the day, the event was useful. I personally did some networking together with our new partners with Grozdanov Communications Consulting. I met lots of friends from the sector: Hristina Mashkova, back to work at Investor after giving a births, Luci Marinova – my former colleague with Publicis, Alexander Durchev – head of All Channels Comm – leading Bulgarian PR agency, Vassil Atanasov – already mentioned him – Grozdanov introduced me to him, Vicki Blajeva – PR Manager at UniCredit Bulbank and Alexander Urumov – PR Head of the Bulgarian National Bank. Alexander Urumov had a very nice and inspiring speech and I find him quite interesting as a professional. I almost missed to mention Alexander Grozdanov and Dobromir Stoyanov with Grozdanov Communications – we were at the event together and we shared contacts.

I am sorry for the long e-mail

Yes, we should be sorry when we write long e-mails and anytime we use lots of words to say something that should be simple. There are at least two more people in support of my statement:

- Blaise Pascal who said: I made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it short.

- Iskra Panova who wrote this article for Marketing Avenue.

Frankly I am among the people who write long, elaborate, e-mails with lots of info and I think it is hard for the recipient to comprehend the information and answer in once sentence. But I will battle this… defect.

Web 2.0 - what it is all about?

Last week I visited a seminar on Online PR. It was organized by ABC Design & Communications – a company for web solutions and multimedia. So during the one-day program we covered a great variety of topics and one of it was Web 2.0. Frankly speaking, I heard about this new concept, term, definition but I had no idea what it is all about.
I will try to describe it for you, but I am open for add-ons. We have to note that it is not about software upgrade. Web 2.0 compared to Web 1.0 uses more sophisticated and in a way it is evolution of the online communications. It is also an observation of the Internet development stages rather than something that was purposely implemented. Web 1.0 includes basic online communication tools, which we all know: web pages, e-mail, search, forums, etc. Web 2.0 has now evolved to brand new tools which we can use as PR tools and implement communication strategies via them: blogs, social networks, social media, RSS, twitter, wiki (Wikipedia), Second Life (virtual existence).

I will go back to all these, but before that would like to emphasize on two significant differences between Web 1.0 and 2.0. Initially the content online was created from one very small group and was dedicated to a relatively big group. Now, with Web 2.0, we are witnessing how a group of many is creating content for even bigger consumer content group.

The second significant difference is that now the content is more credible due to the fact that it is created by users / every day people. Just the way I create content right now.

Blogs: from web and log = blog. We all know then, we obviously use them ;o))

Social networks: Facebook and Myspace are the most popular social networks. They have worldwide coverage, but there are also very strong local networks. For example in Bulgaria we have Atol, Narod, etc. Unlike forums, in the social networks people use their real identity.

Social media: for example YouTube and again there are plenty of local social media web sites. In Bulgaria we have vbox7. People upload video, photos, news thus feeding the communication cannel and providing information.

Wiki: Wikipedia is cool, but this can be use a PR instrument to communicate and reach auditorium that is online and wants to stay online.

RSS: This is an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication. Users are receiving news, changes, updates of a web site immediately on thier e-mails.

Second Life (Virtual reality) has a population of nearly 25 million. This is three times the population of Bulgaria. During the 2008 elections in the States, Barak Obama had his virtual HQs. People could come and visit, learn information, support and even donate money (not virtual ;o))

Twitter: now this is really cool. In a short sentence you say how you feel, what you do and what are your immediate plans. Facebook has it and I personally use it all day. I see my friends also use it.

Well this is it from me. Keep surfing on the brand new and higher Web 2.0 waves ;o)))
